In the aftermath of a cloudburst in Chishoti village, Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, rescue and relief efforts have entered their sixth day, resulting in the recovery of two more bodies. This unfortunate development has raised the death toll to 65, as reported by officials.
Authorities indicated that following an improvement in weather conditions, search operations were intensified. On Tuesday morning, rescuers discovered a mutilated body, and later in the day, another body along with two body parts were found at a different location.
The cloudburst that struck on August 14 caused devastating floods in Chishoti, the last accessible village by vehicle on the route to Machail Mata Temple. Among the deceased are three personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and one Special Police Officer (SPO) from the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Officials confirmed that a total of 167 individuals have been rescued, while the number of missing persons has been revised down to 39 following updates to the list on Monday.
Masuf Ahmed Mirza, a Deputy Superintendent of Police with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), stated that the rescue and relief operations are ongoing at a war footing, with a team being dispatched to further investigate the area.
